Selina Liu
Biography
Selina Liu is a third-year student at Northwestern University pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in theatre and music and a minor in music education.
Selina is currently the assistant conductor at the Orchestre Lamoureux in Paris. She has participated in collaborative concerts with celebrated French artists such as ZAZ and Bernard Lavilliers, and written arrangements for the orchestra’s education programs and upcoming concert with soprano Nadine Sierra. During her residency in Paris, she also wrote a musicology thesis on symphonic jazz arranger Claus Ogerman’s collaborations with Bill Evans and Antonio Carlos Jobim.
During the summer 2023 season, Selina was the music director at Citadel Theatre in Lake Forest, IL in the production of Matilda Jr. and the Broadway 2000s musical theatre intensive program. She has since opened a musical theatre voice and audition coaching studio for beginning actors.
Selina has worked as a music director, pit musician, accompanist, composer, and orchestrator in numerous musical theatre productions at the university. She is the music director for Community Singers, Northwestern’s premier barrier-free philanthropy choir, and the keyboardist in two bands. As a pianist, she is comfortable playing jazz, classical, pop, and musical theatre styles. She is independently developing a documentary musical as a recipient of Northwestern’s Summer Undergraduate Research Grant as the composer, lyricist, book writer, and orchestrator.
