Ricky David Anthony Roshell

Ricky David Anthony Roshell

Biography

Hello!

My name is Ricky D. A. Roshell and I’m currently playing Reeds on the 2nd national tour of Disney’s Aladdin.

I grew up in Dallas, Texas playing oboe and saxophone throughout middle school and high school. Between orchestra, wind ensemble and jazz orchestra I quickly fell in love with performing; enough to major in music after graduation.

I received my Bachelor of Music Education in Instrumental Music from Baylor University in 2018. During my time at Baylor, I studied oboe with Dr. Doris Deloach and bassoon with Dr. Ann Shoemaker. I also studied flute and clarinet with the graduate teaching assistants and jazz improvisation with Professor Alex Parker. In 2017, I was selected as one of the five saxophonists to perform in the Disney All-American College Band and in 2018, I was selected to be a Wayne Fisher Jazz Scholar at Baylor University.

Following my undergraduate graduation, I enrolled in the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati to pursue a Master of Music in Jazz Studies. During my time at CCM, I studied oboe with Dr. Mark Ostoich, bassoon with Dr. William Winstead and saxophone with Professor Craig Bailey. I also studied flute and clarinet with the graduate teaching assistants. I was also able to play on my first Broadway tour, Hello Dolly, as a Cincinnati local in December of 2019. I graduated from CCM with my Master of Music in Jazz Studies in 2021.

Throughout my studies, I’ve always kept a studio of private lesson students! I’ve taught students on flute, clarinet, oboe, saxophone and bassoon from ages ten to forty-three and I truly love teaching. I’m still teaching a few students remotely as I’m on the road as well!

Outside of music, I love making videos and my YouTube channel just recently passed seven hundred subscribers. I’ve earned black belts in two separate martial arts and I taught extreme martial arts (weapons and acrobatic maneuvers) for four years! If you’d like to see some of this, you don’t have to scroll back too far on my Instagram as I still train on a regular basis!

Thank you for reading my biography. I hope we can meet someday!
