Priya Roy
Biography
Priya Roy is an NYC-based multidisciplinary artist whose work transcends boundaries: blending music, theatre, dance, and visual storytelling into transformative experiences. Priya’s performances span a wide array of genres—including jazz, opera, R&B, soul, musical theatre, folk, rock, and pop. She has portrayed iconic roles like Cinderella and mesmerized audiences with her burlesque acts and melodic soprano voice.
As a creator and producer, Priya has recently delved into directing and production, developing original works that challenge conventional narratives. Her productions are rooted in blending her artistic and academic backgrounds, resulting in pieces like Lover’s Inferno at The Red Pavilion in February 2024, an aerial dance and music exploration into heartbreak based on Dante’s Inferno and modern queer relationships. In 2024, Priya produced two sold-out immersive multimedia shows at Red Pavilion Brooklyn, featuring original storylines, a 9-piece band, aerial and pole dancers, and 125 audience members. She has also organized and directed 4 to 10-piece multi-lingual jazz bands featuring queer musicians and musicians of color, with sold-out shows at Silvana’s, The Delancey and a live-music burlesque show at Minton’s Playhouse in Harlem. Since July 2023, Priya has performed over 40 shows, with 10 as vocal and music director/band leader, 5 original songs as songwriter/composer, and a dazzling multitude of cabarets and concerts around NYC.
Her upcoming album, (Be)loved is an sonic exploration of love and self-discovery which is accompanied by a live theatrical performance. The music album including the theatrical script and compositions is written, arranged, and composed by Priya Roy. Her focus on crafting new soundscapes and exploring storytelling through music, theatre, and movement continues to redefine how audiences experience live performance art.
Priya has also been teaching voice for five years, expanding into arrangement and production last year, and continues to empower students by cultivating their unique artistic voices. Priya has worked as a voice teacher in-person and online for ages 3 to 25, including classical voice training, audition coaching, sightsinging, vocal arrangement, songwriting and song composition/recording.
In addition to her artistic endeavors, Priya integrates trauma-informed yoga, meditation, sound healing and spirituality into her work. By offering spaces that nurture spiritual and emotional growth, she invites both audiences and students to engage in their own personal transformations, using art as a tool for healing and self-discovery.
