Nick Benefield
Biography
Nick Benefield is a music director, composer/lyricist, and pianist. He is a current music composition student at Belmont University in Nashville where he interns in the Musical Theater Department with music director Jo Lynn Burks.
Most recently, he music-directed 35mm: A Musical Exhibition for Street Theatre Company in Nashville. He is also working on Belmont’s spring production of Legally Blonde as the music director’s intern, rehearsal pianist, and Keys 3 performer. Currently, he is working on a song-cycle about the experiences of queer, brown sons of immigrants–inspired by his own experience as the son of a Filipino immigrant. He is also collaborating as a composer on a musical about the composer Erik Satie.
While still in college, he is seeking work as a composer, pianist, music assistant, or copyist and would love to help develop new musicals. As a composer himself, he is always looking to work on new ideas and recently helped music-direct a new musical by a fellow student about queer identity in the 1920s and 1930s.
