Miu Sato
Biography
Miu Sato is a 20 year old Japanese composer and pianist with a strong passion towards film scoring, musical theatre, and orchestration. She grew up in Singapore, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, and is currently based in New York.
She began training classically from a young age following the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and successfully completed her graded piano practicals and music theory examinations. She passed the Associate of the Royal Schools of Music (ARSM) with Distinction and was also awarded a Diploma in Piano Music Performance for completing her DipABRSM. She also has experience being Music Director for her high school musical production of AIDA, Jesus Christ Superstar, Jane Eyre, and The Wiz. Her strong background in classical music, exposure to various cultures, and love for film scores and Disney/Pixar soundtracks shape her unique musical voice. Her piece “Reflections” for full orchestra was read by the NYU Orchestra in the fall of 2022. She finds comfort in writing for orchestra but also holds a strong interest in exploring diverse styles of music.
Currently, she is pursuing a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Film Music Composition and is a composer for the Color of My Voice, an animated series that highlights real life stories of marginalized individuals overcoming racial injustice. She studies with composer Chris Hajian and has previously studied with composer/orchestrator Mark Suozzo.
