Meihui Piao
Biography
Piao is a composer, orchestrator, sound designer, and bassist. Piao’s sounds mix elements of contemporary/electronic/world/experimental music. She is influenced by Liu Sola, Caroline Shaw, and Cymin Samawatie. Piao has been introduced to multiple forms of music throughout her cultural exchanges and applied them to her music.
Piao graduated from Columbia College Chicago as BMus Composition in 2023, studied music composition under the guidance of the Music Department’s chair/ composer, Sebastian Huydts, and Grammy-nominated composer, Ilya Levinson. As a composer, she has been making music for commercials, films, instrument solos, games, and art projects. Piao’s goal is to make music that reflects her understanding of various styles, to show off her versatility. Piao as a bassist, plays classical music since 2012 with Mingling Yang. Afterwards, she started exploring jazz with upright/electric bass with Chuck Webb and Doug Lofstrom. She has played in a classical orchestra, contemporary styles music, student-led ensembles and performed at Constellation.
