Biography

Makai Keur was born in Franklin, TN. He is a classically trained pianist that’s been playing music in churches, musical theater, studios, and local venues since he was very young. He’s also a multi instrumentalist that has been teaching around the Greater Nashville and Boston area for years.  Makai wants to create an environment for students that lets them feel like they are being given the tools to be creative in an unlimited capacity.

Makai started working with Cubby’s Music in Nashville in high school. Through there, he had the opportunity to hone his arrangement and orchestration skills and the chance to work with many different projects, including Katy Perry, Steven Tyler, Josh Groban and the Presidential Inaugural Ball. Throughout high school, Makai also worked with different theater companies around the area as an instrumentalist and music director.

Makai has also worked as a composer for musical theater, film, and advertising in multiple capacities. In 2019 a piece from an original musical he cowrote with Julian Watson was a finalist for the American Theater Wing and National Endowment for the Arts’ Musical Theater Songwriting Challenge. Makai attended Berklee College of Music and is currently going back and forth between working freelance in Franklin, TN and working with Carnival Cruiselines in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
