Biography

Luis Alacan is a Panamanian-American film composer, orchestrator, and arranger raised in Miami and currently based in New York City. His music has made its way into indie features and shorts, screening at events such as the Miami Film Festival and New York Latino Film Festival. His work also includes projects for emerging CalArts animators and promotional videos for the Korean Cultural Center New York, Stinghouse Creative, and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Luis earned his Master’s degree in Media Scoring and Production from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, where he studied under Grammy and Emmy-winning composer Carlos Rafael Rivera and served as a graduate teaching assistant. He previously earned his Bachelor’s degree in Composition from Florida International University and studied at the prestigious Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy, where he was accepted into the Film Scoring Intensive Program taught by esteemed educators from the University of Southern California and Berklee College of Music.

Following graduation, Luis furthered his craft through film scoring workshops at Columbia University and Joy Music House New York, and was selected for The Society of Composers & Lyricists New York Mentor Program. During the summers, he serves as a teaching assistant for the Frost Prep Music Production Program and mentors aspiring composers and music producers.

Beyond film scoring, Luis has written arrangements of video game and anime music for the Miami-based Hyrule Woodwind Quintet and contributes production music to Bleeding Fingers Music. In his spare time, he catches up on the latest films and series.
