Lucia I. Vazquez

Lucia I. Vazquez

Biography

Lucía Vázquez is a Cuban American artist born and raised in Miami, FL. The arts and
music has always been a part of their life, largely thanks to their grandparents who are
Cuban musicians. Quickly realizing Lucía’s love for music and storytelling, their family
placed them in singing, dancing, and acting classes. Their love for musicals started
when they were in their first musical production and has only grown since then. Their
love of the arts led them to New World School of the Arts (class of 2020), where they
studied vocal performance, and later on Ball State University (class of 2025), where
they are double majoring in Musical Theatre and Spanish. Some of Lucía’s most recent
work includes Lucy the Slut & Others (Avenue Q), Bobby Strong (Urinetown), Tapper
(Tap!), Mrs. Peters (Trifles), and Ensemble and Oscar u/s (Sweat). Lucía’s passion for
social justice and advocacy through the arts drives their work. They believe that art is
one of the best ways to connect with people and talk about important topics not always
discussed. This idea is something seen throughout some future projects Lucía will be
working on this semester, which includes Artists for Inclusivity’s Second Annual Color
Showcase (which they are the lead coordinator for), and devised piece on the gay rights
movement directed by Morigan Vermilya. Lucía wishes to bring more latiné art to the
musical theatre industry, continue working on projects that challenge our current society,
uplift and celebrate marginalized communities, and teach a younger generation the joys
of the arts. “Theatre is a form of knowledge; it should and can also be a means of
transforming society. Theatre can help us build our future, rather than just waiting for it.” -Augusto Boal
