
Jonah Nung
Biography
Jonah Nung is a music director and pianist based in Toronto, Canada. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto, holding a Bachelor of Music in Music Education (Piano) with a minor in Composition. Jonah’s recent music directing credits include Ordinary Days (Shifting Ground Collective), A Perfect Bowl of Pho (Send Noods Productions), Hedwig and the Angry Inch (Victoria College Drama Society), and Into the Woods (St. Michael’s College Troubadour).
Jonah has been a pit musician and rehearsal pianist on productions including Into the Woods (Dead Name Theatre), A Perfect Bowl of Pho (Toronto Fringe Festival 2022, Patron’s Pick), Spring Awakening (No Strings Theatre), and Sweeney Todd in Concert (Ember Island Players Theatre). His passion for musical theatre and collaborative music-making from their ability to foster human connections and amplify marginalized voices. He frequently accompanies vocalists and instrumentalists in cabarets and concerts, including Juno winner Measha Brueggergosman-Lee.
While classically trained, Jonah enjoys learning and performing in pop, rock, and other contemporary genres. Outside of theatre, he teaches piano and music theory. He also has arranging and composing experience, with recent composition credits including Sammi Zhang’s animated short film Long-Distance (S21E33 of CBC’s Absolutely Canadian) and WANT, an original musical by Mashreka Mahmood.
