Biography

Hi! I’m Jason.

I’m a Japanese-American music director, vocal coach, arranger, and pianist originally from Fayetteville, NY.

I have collaborated with Broadway stars, worked on original works and revivals Off-Broadway, and worked in dozens of cities and states around the country, always focusing on telling a story through music. Outside of NYC, I served as a Music Intern for the Muny’s 101st season, was (briefly) the Music Assistant for Goodspeed Musicals (before the pandemic cut the job short), and worked as the Keys 2/Associate Conductor/“Pit Rat” for the 6th national tour of Spamalot. In New York, I have worked in various capacities Off-Broadway, including as the music director/copyist for Bright and Brave at Dixon Place, a music assistant for J2 Spotlight’s inaugural season, and my most recent project as the music director for Waiting in the Wings.

I have a passion for working with actors “where they’re at,” always making sure to help connect the dots between music and drama – I even wrote a thesis about the best ways to teach music to actors and am constantly on the hunt for new ways to make the rehearsal process easier and more collaborative. My background as a performer and my degree in drama helps me infuse all of my music direction and vocal coaching with a focus on storytelling and dramatic choices through music. In my spare time, I love playing video games, watching math videos, cooking and baking with my boyfriend, and consuming any form of media that involves an inter-dimensional love story.
