Biography
Hyun Ji Kwon is a versatile cellist whose career spans classical and contemporary music to Broadway productions, popular music, and film score recording. She currently performs in the Broadway musical The Queen of Versailles and previously toured with the Broadway revival of 1776. Her musical theater work also includes numerous touring, pre-Broadway, and regional productions in the New England area and in Seoul, Korea.
Kwon maintains an active career as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player. She is a member of the Boston Lyric Opera, Meadowlark Trio, Echo Bridge Cellos, and Convergence Ensemble, and performs regularly with the Boston Ballet Orchestra, the Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), and the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra.
Her recording work includes original motion picture soundtracks for Korean films such as Oldboy, Lady Vengeance, Hello Brother, and Blood Rain.
As an educator, Kwon has taught at Colby College, Boston University, the Boston University Tanglewood Institute (BUTI), Phillips Exeter Academy, and the Project STEP
Kwon holds degrees from Ewha Womans University (BM), the New England Conservatory (MM, GD), and Boston University (DMA).
