Biography

Felipe Segovia Sanhueza (he/him/his) is a composer, orchestrator, music director and choral conductor born and raised in Chile and currently based in New York, with a focus on bringing new Spanish-language work and Chilean/Latin stories to the biggest theatre and concert stages.

He’s best known for his work in musical theater. His works include Talcahuano, el musical, (music and orchestrations) premiered in Santiago, Chile in 2023. This production received 9 nominations for the Premios Carmen Musical Theatre Awards in 2024, winning Best Original Book. He also participated in Café con Leche: A New Musical, (arrangements, orchestrations and music direction) with an EP Release through Theatre Barn Records in 2024 and a 29-hour Reading featured on Playbill, produced by New York Theater Barn in 2025. Most recently, his original musical MISTRAL, written in collaboration with Maiga Vidal, is the first ever Spanish-English bilingual musical in the history of the NYU Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program and was featured in a showcase at The Cutting Room in May 2025. 

Outside of the theater world, he’s been active in the choral world since 2014 both as a singer, including in the Symphony Choir of the University of Chile, and by conducting children, university, and adult choirs throughout Chile. As a choral composer, Felipe’s interest lies in bringing “drama” and “music” together to the concert stage. His original piece Recuerdo was the winner of the New Music for New York 2025 competition by the Manhattan Choral Ensemble and received its World Premiere at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music in March 2025.
