Ethan Hemmings
Biography
Ethan Hemmings is a versatile musician from Arlington, Virginia, excelling as a violinist,
audio engineer, string arranger, and music producer. With over a decade of experience, his
journey began in public school and has led to collaborations with esteemed orchestras like the
Arlington Philharmonic, St. Olaf’s Orchestra, and The Young Artists Orchestras of the Eastern
Music Festival. Ethan also performed at the Boulanger Initiative’s inaugural WoCo Festival,
highlighting women composers.
He has honed his violin skills under mentors Claire Allen and Dr. Akemi Takayama. He
developed his audio engineering expertise through the MPRT program at Shenandoah University
and an internship at Cue Recording Studios. His musical education includes participation in the
Eastern Music Festival, tours to Argentina and Japan, and masterclasses with Kevin Zhu, Stella
Chen, and Thierry De Lucas of the Sphinx Virtuosi ensemble.
An advocate for diversity and inclusion, Ethan served as Student Director of the Mosaic Center
for Diversity and as a Worship Leader at Shenandoah University. He created the award-winning
“Mending Our Minds” seminar to support the mental well-being of the Black community at
Shenandoah.
Ethan graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Music in Music Production and
Recording Technology from Shenandoah University. He is pursuing a Master of Music in String
Studies – Violin at New York University Steinhardt, studying under Giora Schmidt.
