Dean Balan is a music director, conductor, and pianist, and currently serves as the Music Director for the National Tour of The Prom. Prior to that, he was the Associate Music Director for the show, as well as Associate MD for the 2nd National Tour of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.
As a conductor, Dean has led productions of The Secret Garden, The Pirates of Penzance, Pagliacci, Postcard from Morocco, and The Seven Deadly Sins, among others. He has served as pianist/music director for productions of The Last Five Years and The Fantasticks, and has played piano/keyboard for productions including Legally Blonde, Rent, Seussical, 42nd Street, Into the Woods, Beauty and the Beast, and Mary Poppins, and was a keyboard sub for Phantom: The Las Vegas Spectacular.
At home in Las Vegas, he is the Associate Music Director for Vegas City Opera and has accompanied dance classes for the Nevada Ballet Theatre, UNLV Department of Dance, and Youth America Grand Prix.
Dean holds a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology/Biology from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and is a graduate of the College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), University of Cincinnati, where he earned a master’s degree in orchestral conducting.
