Shahar (Clay) Herzberg
Biography
Shahar (Clay) Herzberg (he/him) is a NYC-based Jewish composer of Iraqi descent. Since immigrating to the United States from Israel, he has written three short musicals, two of which have been selected for the upcoming New York Theater Festival. In Israel he has written two one-act musicals, one of which (Dead Letter Perfect) is still in development in Tel-Aviv.
His works include The Amazons of Overcote High (Selected for New York Theater Festival 2025, presented in Lincoln Center 2024), AIDEN (Surfside Playhouse 2024, Lincoln Center 2023), The Legend of Rachel (New York Theater Festival 2025), Dead Letter Perfect (In Hebrew, developmental readings in Tel-Aviv 2022-2024), When You Dance (Ha’Studio, Haifa, 2018).
Shahar is an alumnus of Lipper’s Musical Theatre Writing Workshop, the BPM College for Sound and Music Production, and the Rubin Conservatory of Music.
In addition to composing for musical theatre, Shahar has also composed for several indie video games and short movies.
