Biography

Native of Taiwan, Chia-Lin Yu is a passionate percussionist and music educator currently based in New York City. Her versatility has led her to perform as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral player, and pit musician across Austria, Italy, Japan, Taiwan, and the United States.

In 2025, she performed in the musical theater production Jesus Christ Superstar with Utopia Opera. She also appeared with the Transport Group in Rodgers & Hammerstein: A Broadway Celebration, performing selections from Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, The Sound of Music, Cinderella, and more. Chia-Lin has performed with numerous orchestras in both Taiwan and the U.S. and has served as timpanist and percussionist in opera productions, including The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs, L’elisir d’amore, La Traviata, Le Nozze di Figaro, Ariadne auf Naxos, and Così fan tutte.

In 2024, she performed with Sandbox Percussion in the world premiere of The Jump Up!, a new work by Douglas J. Cuomo. Her appearances include the Holiday Celebration concert, featuring Big Band and studio orchestra, where she shared the stage with Sylvia McNair, Steve Houghton, Steve Allee, Jeremy Allen, and Daniel Perantoni. She was also selected to perform with the IU Percussion Ensemble in the PASIC 2018 ensemble showcase concert.

Chia-Lin has been active in professional recording sessions, including contributing to Grammy-winning drummer Glenn Kotche’s album Sticks, Skins, Metal and Stone. She also appears on Dice X Friends, the debut album by Dice Trio, featuring newly commissioned works for the trio in collaboration with a variety of guest ensembles.

As a soloist, she has presented a percussion recital at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music and appeared as a featured soloist with orchestras and ensembles from Japan, Taiwan, and the U.S. Chia-Lin holds a Master’s degree and a Performer Diploma in Percussion Performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. In addition to performing, she enjoys composing and arranging music.
