Ahlanna Jasmine Russell
As a teenager from a small town in New York, I have hopes for making change in my community and eventually the world. I want to ensure that there’s more resources regarding mental health, political awareness, and social consciousness for our youth. I’ve seen too many people struggle to sit back and ignore it. My community is full of eager teens who want to take the extra step towards that change we all need. But, it starts with a passionate leader like myself. In regards to my future, I hope to become a professional theatre actress. I want to become an inspiration for aspiring actresses that may not be the average leading lady on Broadway. However, I can break that norm for queer women, plus-size women, and BIPOC women like myself. The entertainment business desperately needs racial and size diversity. I want little girls to be able to look up to someone and know that they can be successful despite these beauty standards. I’m very passionate about making every voice heard. Especially during the time we’re in right now, it’s important to listen to each other and heal as one. I want to contribute to a society that cares and corrects. I will better this world and make it a place where everyone feels safe regardless of our differences.
