Sissi Liu
Biography
Sissi Liu is a composer-lyricist, dramaturg, and theatre and performance scholar. Her work has been seen on the stages of the Carnegie Hall, the Juilliard School, Times Square Alliance, etc. Her most recent musical (as composer and co-lyricist), If This Be Sin, in collaboration with Kirya Traber (book writer and co-lyricist), has been supported by and developed at the Kennedy Center and Hi-Arts NYC, and has had performances at the Lincoln Center and Joe’s Pub. She holds a PhD in Theatre and Performance from The Graduate Center, City University of New York, and has taught at CUNY colleges and Brown University. She is currently visiting the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, NJ.
An artist and scholar with an unflagging spirit of inquiry, Sissi is excited by, and draws connections among, wide ranging disciplines from rocket science to fragrance chemistry of trees to Song Dynasty Chinese paintings. Her alter ego, Lusi Erling, is a painter.
Sissi has volunteered in non-governmental organizations to end world poverty and schools for children with disabilities.
She is a queer Asian who is working everyday to make the world a more equitable, livable, and lovable place.
