Simran Shah
Biography
Simran Shah is a composer and performer currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in music at Haverford College, with a concentration in composition and piano performance. Feeling mesmerized by music’s transformative nature, she turned to piano and saxophone to explore her passion. She performed saxophone in her high school wind ensemble, jazz band, and pit orchestra. As a pianist and keyboardist, Simran enjoys performing as a pit orchestra and chamber musician, and her love for playing has led her to the stage of Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall several times – at as young as 10 years old.
Her fascination with music led to her developing an interest in composition. In May 2023, she scored the soundtrack to a screendance, and in June 2023, she was a composer at the Mostly Modern Festival. Simran is currently writing an original soundtrack for her school’s theater production of Almost, Maine. She is also working with a trapeze artist, writing music to her choreography. Simran’s musical inspiration comes from a variety of genres and musical styles, ranging from Western classical, to Hindustani traditional music, to electronic/experimental pop music, and more.
At the heart of Simran’s musical interests lies a deep passion for collaborating with and learning from all types of artists. She would love to use her musical voice alongside performers, visual artists, writers, and anyone else, to create something beautiful in its own, unique way.
