Biography

Ekamba Odey is a highly dynamic Nigerian/Cameroonian filmmaker, dramatist, and public health graduate dedicated to social justice. As a writer, producer, and director, he leverages the arts to ignite critical conversations on public health, gender equality, political representation, and human rights.

He is a distinguished alumnus of the African International Film Festival (AFRIFF) and the Terra Kulture South South Writers Training Program. Edwin is recognized for his commitment to advocacy and creative excellence, having been named a 2022 Rainbow Academy Scholar by the Bisi Alimi Foundation, the first Africa-based Scholar of the prestigious Beth Morrison Project: Producers Academy (New York), and a 2025 Fellow of the Creative Independent Producers Alliance (CIPA) Producers fellowship program.

Key Works in Advocacy and Storytelling:

• Musical Theater: Wrote, produced, and directed three groundbreaking musicals:
  • “Sọ̀rọ̀ Sókè The Christmas Musical” (2021), adapting the nativity story to modern Nigeria and the ENDSARS protest.
  • “Fickle Game: the Insane Musical” (2022), an alternate-reality exploration of rape culture and gender disparity.
  • “Ikwo Ndem: The musical” (2024), centering on justice for victims of violence against queer people in Nigeria through the lens of Efik deities.
• Film: Directed the documentary Switch on Her Mic (2021) on women in Cross River state politics (in partnership with GADA). Independently wrote, produced, and directed three short films, including Shattered Dialogue (HIV spousal testing) and Yours Truly, Monster (advocacy for street kids/OVC).
• Thought Leadership: A 2-time Panelist at African Pride Accelerated (APA) 2023, presenting the paper “Telling our way to Equality.”

Edwin Wiffey is actively seeking collaborative opportunities that fuse artistic excellence with tangible social change. My key areas of interest are in religion, Gender identities, feminism, and storytelling as a tool for Activism and Human rights.
