Joël René Scoville
Biography
Joël is a Black Mormon (yes, really), actress, writer, librettist and lyricist. Her musical 2&1: A Harlem Musical with Loose Morals with composer Jenna Gillespie Byrd, was a 2023 Eugene O’Neill Finalist and a 2022 Relentless Award Honorable Mention. Her musical Flophouse with co-writer Justin Anthony Long and composer Joanna Burns was a 2023 Rhinebeck Finalist. Her 10-minute play Ethel and Ethel had its world premiere at the Obie Award Winning, The Fire This Time Festival in 2024. She wrote and starred in, Crazy with a K! , a web series comedically depicting her mental health struggles and she is a co-writer on the upcoming, Animus for AfterShock Comics. She is a member of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop, The Dramatists Guild of America, Actors’ Equity Association and a founding member of UNTITLED Musical Writers Group. She loves Agatha Christie, Batman and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, much to the chagrin of her grown sons and her husband, whom she recently remarried…for the third time. (Yes, really).
