Deepak Kumar
Biography
Deepak Kumar is a playwright, composer, and lyricist based out of the Bay Area, California. His work prominently features Asian-Americans grappling with the messiness of their identities as they relate to their unique American experiences. He is also a technologist, and is interested in building new experiences at the intersection of theatre and technology.
His show, “Baked! The Musical” (co-written with Jord Liu) won best lyrics, best lead performer, best supporting performer, and best ensemble at the Chicago Musical Theatre Festival, and was a NYMF 2020 selection, a RAVE 2020 selection, and a Eugene O’Neill NMTC 2022 semifinalist. His show, “House of India”, was an Eugene O’Neill NPC 2022 selection and a 2022 Bay Area Playwrights Festival Semi-Finalist. He is also a MacDowell Colony Fellow.
His theater work has been produced with Underscore Theatre in Chicago, the National Asian American Theatre Company (NAATCO), Musical Theatre Factory, PACE University in New York, Faultline Theater in San Francisco, and Shotgun Players in Berkeley, CA.
