Matthew Oshida
Biography
MATTHEW OSHIDA is a violinist, violist, and orchestra personnel manager/contractor based in California. As a recording musician, he has performed on albums produced by various record labels including Sony Classical, Hyperion, Claves, and Delos. In Musical Theatre, he was the solo violinist on the 2016 Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella National Tour and has played on several productions for TheatreWorks. He has performed with orchestras throughout the country including San Jose Symphony, San Diego Symphony, Utah Symphony, Las Vegas Philharmonic, Sarasota Opera, and Tulsa Symphony, Opera, and Ballet. He has appeared in principal positions with the orchestras in Berkeley, San Jose, Fremont, Walnut Creek, Sacramento, Santa Cruz, Modesto, and Huntsville, recorded with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and accompanied such popular artists as Sarah Brightman, Andrea Bocelli, Michael Bolton, Placido Domingo, Tim McGraw, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Mannheim Steamroller, Kevin Spacey, and Harry Connick, Jr. As a chamber musician, he performed with the Emerson Quartet and pianist Jon Nakamatsu, and participated in live broadcasts for BBC Radio 3. As a founding member of the San Francisco based Farallon Quintet, he has played 60+ concerts throughout Northern California, received grants from San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music and the Barlow Endowment, was ensemble-in-residence at Old First Concerts, and served on the faculty for Chamber Musicians of Northern California. His music festival participation includes Gstaad Menuhin Festival, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, Oregon Coast Music Festival, New Hampshire Music Festival, Aldeburgh Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, Rheingau Musik Festival, Grafenegg Festival, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Midsummer Mozart, Mendocino Music Festival, AIMS Festival Graz, and Music in the Mountains. Outside of the concert hall, he has demonstrated the link between music and leadership through performing at training seminars for executives at such companies as eBay, Chevron, Intel, Del Monte, and Protiviti. He currently serves as Treasurer and Executive Board Member for Regional Orchestra Players’ Association and is a committee member of National Alliance for Audition Support which promotes diversity in American orchestras. He received a B.M. from Indiana University and M.M. from SUNY Stony Brook.
